I’m James Ogston, based in Scotland, with over 35 years of design software coaching, design, planning and technical detailing experience in the Architectural (AEC) industry.
I’m James Ogston — a 3D Digital Design Intelligence Coach, 3D CAD coach, visualisation consultant, authorised SketchUp trainer, and UK SketchUp Partner helping designers, architects, and creators turn ideas into build-ready reality.
With over 35 years of experience across AEC design, planning, technical detailing, CAD, CAD/BIM, and software coaching, I help people replace confusion, tech overwhelm, and wasted time with clearer workflows, stronger modelling habits, and greater professional confidence.
My authority in this field is built on more than experience alone. It is built on heritage.
I have worked across architectural practices, house builders, and construction companies, and previously served as an accredited Autodesk applications engineer and trainer before becoming one of the first officially accredited SketchUp trainers through @Last Software, then through Google, and now with Trimble as a UK SketchUp Partner and Authorised Training Centre.
That gives me a rare perspective in a highly competitive world. I do not just teach SketchUp as it exists today — I have grown with it, trained through its major eras, and helped users apply it in real design and construction workflows for decades.
I also come from a strong background in traditional CAD and CAD/BIM coaching and support. That experience still informs the way I teach, but I recognised early on where SketchUp was heading and committed to it properly many years ago. That long view continues to shape the guidance I offer today.
Today, I support architects, interior designers, technologists, garden and landscape designers, creatives, and artists worldwide through structured coaching, visualisation support, and bespoke SketchUp training.
I have also been trusted by recognised global brands, including direct consultancy connected to Google, delivering accredited and bespoke SketchUp coaching, design support, and user fault-finding guidance to international clients.
Why my guidance stands apart
This is not generic software training. It is structured, project-aware guidance built around real workflows, real pressure, and real results.
